In TRISOLARIES (a science fiction written by amazing Liu Cixin), our solar system was under something called 'dimensional attacks'. It began with a tiny translucent 2-dimensional portal floating in the space out of nowhere, it then sucked up matters around it and turn into flat surface. Gradually, everything that once existed in our solar system was all melted into the 2-dimension --- organisms included certainly! Finally, what's left is another giant, colourful, organic painting appeared in the universe.
